Megan Romano Cruises to Two Top Seeds at Day One Prelims of Tennessee Invite
There were some swift prelims swims at morning number one at the 2016 Tennessee Aquatics June Invitational.
Megan Romano led the way in the women’s 100 freestyle with a 56.02. Natalie Hinds (56.26) and Alia Atkinson (56.93) return to finals as the second and third seeds, and the only other swimmers under 57 seconds.
Romano cruised to a second top in the 100 backstroke. She stopped the clock in 1:03.01, ahead of Elizabeth Beisel in 1:03.90. Seventeen year old Haley Hynes also put herself into that race tonight with a 1:03.83 this morning.
Beisel was also able to swim a more relaxed prelims 400 freestyle. She touched in 4:14.23, well ahead of the second qualifier, Ashley Neidigh in 4:19.49. Zoe Thatcher will return as the third seed in 4:20.47.
NCAA Champion Caeleb Dressel earned the top seed in the men’s 100 freestyle this morning with a 50.71. Roland Schoeman touched second in 50.85. Andrew Marsh was this morning’s third finisher in 51.21.
Molly Hannis cruised to a top seeded 2:34.30 200 breaststroke this morning. Kersten Dirrance (2:35.15) and Emma Barksdale (2:36.09) followed in second and third.
In the men’s 100 backstroke the top four seeds all finished in close succession. Bryce Bohman got to the wall first in 56.54, just before Luke Kaliszak in 56.62. Sean Lehane (56.94) and Christopher Reid (56.98) return tonight as the third and fourth seeds.
Trey Freeman was the fastest swimmer in this morning’s men’s 400 freestyle, posting a 3:57.21. Nicholas Sweetser also cracked four minutes with a 3:59.80. Louis Behnen recorded a 4:01.23 for third.
