Maxime Grousset – who was fourth at the Tokyo Olympics – went top of the 100 free world rankings in 48.09 in the prelims of the French Elite Championships in Limoges.

The 22-year-old split 23.23/24.86 to leapfrog Lewis Burras’ 48.45 at the 2022 helm before the Briton came within 0.06secs in 48.15 little more than an hour later at his respective national championships in Sheffield.

Elsewhere in the heats, Mary-Amber Moluh – who had booked her slot for the World Championships in the 100 back – headed the 50 in 27.83.

Charlotte Bonnet, who has two world relay medals, clocked 1:58.43 in the 200 free and Noyan Taylan went 1:57.47 in the 200 fly.
