Maxime Grousset Goes 51.71 For 100 Fly PB In Rennes; Charlotte Bonnet Consigns Super-Suited 50 Breast Record To History

Maxime Grousset delivered a 51.71 PB in the 100 fly and Charlotte Bonnet toppled the national 50 breast mark that had stood since the 2009 super-suit era in the final prelims session of the French Championships in Rennes.

Grousset has been on scorching form this week in Rennes, going 47.62 to win the 100 free before booking a second swim in the 50 on Thursday evening when he was second in 21.78 behind Florent Manaudou’s 21.62.

He returned on Friday morning to split 24.07/27.64 to take 0.01 off his PB of 51.72 from the Giant Open in March with Stanislas Huille (52.47) and Charles Rihoux  (52.49) next home.

Two-time European medallist Mehdy Metella – owner of the top 22 times in French history headed by the national record of 50.85 – is also through, the 30-year-old clocking 53.11 for sixth.

Bonnet lowered the national 100 breaststroke mark to 1:07.54 on Wednesday, hours after setting a new record of 1:07.76.

On Friday she returned to take 0.14 off Sophie de Ronchi‘s 30.96 that had stood since the 2009 French Championships amid the super-suited era.

Florine Gaspard of Belgium leads the way into Friday’s final in 30.75.

Mewen Tomac will attempt a clean sweep of the backstroke events, leading the way in the 50 in 25.08 having already taken the 100 and 200.

Yohann Ndoye Brouard – on the team for Fukuoka in the 100 – was next through in 25..35 with Max Berg third in 25.50.

Anna Egorova headed the 200 free prelims in 1:59.83 ahead of 100 winner Marie Wattel (2:00.59).

Fantine Lesaffre heads the women’s 400IM in 4:43.34, the French record-holder having already qualified in the short medley in Rennes.
