Matthew Van Deusen of Nation’s Capital Swim Club Commits to UNC Tar Heels
NEW COMMIT: Manassas, Va. native Matthew Van Deusen has announced his decision to continue his academic and swimming career at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill beginning in the fall of 2021.
He will join Aidan Crisci, Sami Moussally, Dylan Citta, Nick Radkov, Jay Baker, Walker Davis, and Ryan Silver as members of the Tar Heels’ class of 2025.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am super excited and humbled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of North Carolina. I want to thank my coaches at NCAP and my family and friends who helped me along the way. #goHeels!”
Van Deusen, who trains year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club, earned 100% best times last month at the 18&U Winter Championships – Potomac Valley where he won the 200 back. Last March, he had a strong showing at Potomac Valley Seniors where his highest finish was a 12th-place showing in the 100 back.
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.90
- 100 free – 45.31
- 200 free – 1:39.21
- 100 back – 48.49
- 200 back – 1:44.44
- 200 IM – 1:51.22
Also competing for Colgan High School, Van Deusen raced the 50/100 free at the Virginia 6A State Championships as a sophomore. During his junior season, he finished second in the 100 back and fifth in the 200 IM at the Region 6B Championships.
Van Deusen has made some pretty impressive time drops over the last year, and his 200 back time is just shy of B-final scoring range at the ACC Championship level.
