ORLANDO – Matthew Hirschberger made it two national age group records in two races at the NCSA junior nationals, taking down Sean Grieshop’s 15-16 mark of 4:16.59 in the 500 freestyle with a 4:16.43. Hirschberger swam that time in today’s prelims, beating his own lifetime best of 4:17.13 from last month’s DC Metro high school championships.

Since the NCSA junior nationals is being contested in short course yards for prelims and long course meters for finals, Hirschberger won’t get another chance to lower the record tonight. He could, however, take aim at Larsen Jensen’s long course national age group record of 3:50.68 that has stood since 2002.
Last night, Hirschberger broke Jeff Kostoff’s 33-year-old national age group record in the 1000 freestyle.
