Matt Voelker Signs with Ohio State Buckeyes
COLUMBUS, Ohio, November 25. MATT Voelker, a senior at Upper Arlington High School, has signed with the Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team, head swimming coach Bill Wadley announced today.
A seven-time high school All-American, Voelker was named co-most valuable swimmer for Upper Arlington his junior year, along with being named team captain his senior year. Continuing a long tradition of excellence at Ohio State, Voelker’s grandfather, John Hlay, played football for OSU Coach Woody Hayes from 1949-52. Voelker’s father, Kevin Chapman, the boy’s head swimming coach at Upper Arlington High School, was also a former Buckeye swimming team captain.
“Matt is a wonderful young man who is clearly a diamond in the rough and has just begun to come into his own,” Wadley said. “I expect Matt will contribute to the Buckeye sprint group and relays right away and will have a big impact on the team.”
