MATT ULRICKSON WINS 100 BACK
Bolstered by confidence from his 23.96 split on the winning 200 medley relay, Texas junior Matt Ulrickson came from lane 2 to win the 100 back in a 52.05. Ulrickson was in fifth at the 50, but finished strong to beat out Texas A&M sophomore Riley Janes (52.18) and Minnesota junior Alex Massura (52.24).
Texas sophomore Tom Hannan, who was fifth in the 100 fly earlier in the evening, was fourth in 52.53, and Cal senior Bart Kizierowski was fifth in 52.54. Last year's champion, Tennessee junior Michael Gilliam, was sixth in 52.71. Arizona senior Matt Allen was seventh in 52.72, and Southern Cal sophomore Leonardo Costa was eighth in 52.88. Georgia sophomore Marc Lindsay won the consolation final in 53.15.
"I was surprised," said Ulrickson. "My parents moved here about a year and a half ago, so I was using the joy and excitement I had at seeing them in the stands to get me going. And the relay split definitely gave me confidence that I could get out there faster."
