Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk, Wife of Distance Ace Mykhailo, Claims Silver Medal at World Track & Field Champs

Four years after capturing a silver medal at the World Track & Field Championships in the long jump, the Ukraine’s Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk earned a silver medal in the triple jump during Friday’s action at the World Champs in Budapest. Bekh-Romanchuk is the wife of distance star Mykhailo Romanachuk, a two-time Olympic medalist and four-time medalist at the World Champs.

In the final of the triple jump, Bekh-Romanchuk posted a best jump of 15.00 meters, which finished second to the 15.08 effort of Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas. The Venezuelan, who is the reigning Olympic champion, claimed her fourth consecutive world title in style, as she produced her winning jump on her sixth and final attempt.

Because Russia invaded the Ukraine more than a year ago, Bekh-Romanchuk and her husband have trained apart at times during the war. Amid their challenges, both have continued to excel at the elite level in their sports. At last month’s swimming World Championships, Romanchuk finished sixth in the 800-meter freestyle and seventh in the 1500 freestyle. He and his wife both figure to be in medal content in their respective sports at next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
