On the final morning of USA Swimming’s Junior National Championships in San Antonio, Texas, the women were caught chasing down Missy Franklin‘s meet records in both the 200 Individual Medley and 50 Freestyle. Pine Crest Swimming’s Marta Ciesla had the standout swim of the morning in the women’s 50 freestyle when she cut several tenths from her entry time with a 25.31, only eight one-hundredths off Missy Franklin’s 2009 meet record (25.23).

Women’s 200 IM

SOCAL Aquatic’s Ella Eastin maintains her busy schedule with a top seed tonight in the women’s 200 IM. Eastin posted a 2:15.50 prelims swim for the top spot. Hot on her heels is Ozaukee Aquatics’ Katie Drabot with a 2:15.64. Although both times are fast, it would take an epic finals race for either woman to take down Franklin’s 2:12.73 meet record. Rounding out the top eight are Kim Williams (2:16.79), Miranda Tucker (2:17.59), Regan Barney (2:18.00), Evie Pfeifer (2:18.31), Makayla Sargent (2:18.35) and Dannie Dilsaver (2:18.63).

Men’s 200 IM

Michael Andrew dominated his circle-seeded heat 12 in the 200 IM by nearly three seconds to qualify first in tonight’s finals with a 2:02.51. Andrew is seeded a half-second ahead of second qualifier Thomas Dillinger (2:03.03) of Greenwich Aquatics and 1.25 seconds faster than third qualifier Sean Greishop (2:03.76) of Nitro Swimming. Andrew’s morning swim was a few seconds off his 2:01.10 entry time, which is still a far cry from Kyle Whitaker’s 2:00.07 meet record. Also in the A-final tonight are Mark Andrew (2:04.58), Nick Milikich (2:04.93), Nick Alexander (2:05.15), Tommy Cope (2:05.19), and Daniel Gloude (2:05.64).

Women’s 50 Freestyle

It was a fast morning in the women’s 50 freestyle. Pine Crest’s Marta Ciesla took the top spot from Mako Swim Team’s Anya Goeders with a 25.31, a time only eight one-hundredth off Franklin’s meet record. Tonight, she will compete for the gold against Y-Spartaquatics’ Katrina Konopka (25.47), Goeders (25.84), Caroline McTaggart (25.85), Kasey Schmidt (25.92), Nika Blank (25.95), Isabelle Henig (26.09) and Taylor Ruck (26.13).

Men’s 50 Freestyle

Michael Andrew was the only swimmer to clear the coveted 23 second barrier in the 50 freestyle in this morning’s preliminary session. Andrew dominated the field with a 22.56, putting him nearly six tenths ahead of second-seed Dean Farris (23.12) of Metro Atlanta. This was a season best for Andrew, who entered the meet with a 22.63. Third seed goes to NCAP’s James William Jones with 23.18. Rounding out the top eight are Albert Gwo (23.26), Maxime Rooney (23.27), Billy Beard (23.34), Tyler Harper (23.38), and Will Davis (23.41). The meet record is held by Vladimir Morozov at a 22.13.
