Maria Kameneva Claims Third Gold In 100 Backstroke At Swim Cup Of Russia
Maria Kameneva made it a trio of titles when she won the 100 backstroke at the Swim Cup of Russia in Kazan.
The meet features swimmers from Russia and Belarus who are banned from the international stage following the invasion of Ukraine and coincides with the World Championships in Fukuoka.
Kameneva split 28.89/301.7 en-route to the 100 back gold which she added to the 50 back and 100 free.
Ilya Borodin added the 400IM to his short medley – in which he set the national record – in 4:09.80 and Oleg Kostin was 0.09 outside his Russian 50 fly record in 22.71.
Xenia Misharina headed the fastest heat of the women’s 1500m free in 16:25.69 and a Moscow quartet took the women’s 4×100 free in 3:42.99.
Semi-final Action
Kliment Kolesnikov – who crushed the 50 back WR in 23.55 – booked lane four for the 100 free in 47.96 as he targets his fourth gold.
Ilya Shymanovich of Belarus heads the 50 breaststroke semis in 26.59.
Arina Surkova posted the swiftest 100 fly into Sunday’s final in 58.20 as she seeks to add to her 50 gold before coming back to go 24.58 for top seed in the 50 free.
The Swim Cup of Russia wraps up on Sunday with 10 finals and the strongest heat of the men’s 1500 free.
