Maria Harutjunjan Breaks 100 Breast Record at Mountain West

On the third night of finals at the Mountain West Conference Championship, Maria Harutjunjan of Wyoming broke the MW Champ and MW All Time record in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.21. This time outdid Katelyn Weddle’s MW All Time record of 1:00.29 from 2010, and Lina Rathsack of UNLV’s record from this morning of 1:00.42. Rathsack was second in 1:00.59, while Emily Ridout of Wyoming was 1:01.18.
Wyoming University also won their first ever Mountain West conference victory in the 400 medley relay with the team of Isobel Ryan (54.46) Maria Harutjunjan (59.97) Molly Coonce (52.85) and Emily Ridout (48.58) posting a 3:35.86 just out-touching Boise State’s effort of 3:35.97. UNLV grabbed the bronze with a time of 3:37.25.
In the 400 IM Nevada’s Yawen Li defended her title with a time of 4:09.89. She was followed by Rachael Kelch of San Diego State who was second in 4:13.96. Emma Dow of Wyoming was third in 4:19.03.
Brittany Aoyama of Boise won the 100 fly in a time of 52.75. Summer Harrison of San Diego State followed in 52.84. Elise Hart of Air Force was third in 53.59.
In the 200 free, Emma Chard of Boise won the event, breaking the MW Champ and MW All Time record previously held by Teresa Baerens of Nevada. Chard went a 1:45.23 to upend Baerens record of 1:45.68. Rebecca Murray of Nevada was second in 1:46.89, while Michelle Troup of UNLV was third in 1:47.18.
Samantha Wicks of Boise won the 100 back in 52.03, grabbing the gold by over a second. Isobel Ryan of Wyoming won the silver in 53.24, while Mazutaityte of Fresno State was third in 54.06.
Prelims will begin tomorrow at 11 am CT.
