Marco de Tullio concluded the penultimate day of the Italian Championships with victory in the 200 free in 1:46.29.

De Tullio, part of the Italian 4×200 relay squad that won bronze at last year’s European Championships, was third at halfway behind national record-holder Filippo Megli and Stefano di Cola.

However, the 21-year-old turned on the speed with a 53.98 second 100 – and 26.50 final 50 – to take the title.

Although it was outside the cut to make the Italian team, it was inside the Fina A cut.

A final 50 of 26.79 propelled Gabriele Detti from seventh to second in 1:47.50 with Di Cola next home in 1:47.55 as six men finished inside 1:48.

Silvia di Pietro went 24.97 in the 50 free prelims and returned in the evening to post 25.10 ahead of Chiara Tarantino in 25.42.

Piero Codia won the men’s 100 fly in 51.65, outside the cut of 51.10 but within the Fina A time of 51.96.

Out in 23.76 – 0.59 faster than anyone else in the field – the Italian record holder came back in 27.89 to finish 0.39 ahead of Olympic 200 fly bronze medallist Federico Burdisso who stopped the clock at 52.04 with Matteo Rivolta third in 52.16.

Matteo Restivo won the men’s 200 back in 1:57.56, 0.15 ahead of Lorenzo Mora who made inroads into the 0.61 deficit in 1:57.71.

Margherita Panziera took the 100 back in 1:00.25 after overcoming a 0.77 deficit at halfway behind Silvia Scala who clocked 1:00.33.

Panziera, the Italian record holder, was outside the cut of 59.50, although both were inside the Fina A time.

Ilario Cusinato won the 200 fly in 2:10.36, outside both the cut and Fina A time,

Luca Pizzini took the men’s 200br title in 2:10.98
