Marcello Guidi And Lea Boy Win Respective Races At LEN Open Water Cup In Samorin

Italy’s Marcello Guidi and Germany’s Lea Boy won the men’s and women’s events in the fourth leg of the LEN Open Water Cup in Samorin, Slovakia.

The men’s race started proceedings with the pack together after four of the six laps when Guidi and Hungarian  Hambardzumyan Arshak struck out.

The young Hungarian – who won the junior world relay in 2022 – was on level terms with Guidi but the Italian left him behind to win by 36secs in 1:55:22.9 ahead of Arshak (1:55:59.2) and Piotr Wozniak of Poland (1:56:12.9).

The women’s race unfolded similarly. Boy – the 2021 European champion and 2022 world 25km silver medallist Boy left everyone behind to win comfortably by 18secs in 2:07:33.9.

Behind her three swimmers rushed towards the panel where Hungary’s junior world champion Bettina Fabian managed to out-touch Italy’s Arianna Bridi by 0.1sec in 2:07:52.5 to 2:07:52.6.

Victory propelled Guidi to the top of the men’s overall standings while Gabbriella Taddeucci’s lead at the top of the women’s rankings has been cut to 50 points by Bridi with Fabian now third.

Veles, North Macedonia, will host the LEN Open Water Cup fifth leg in three weeks’ time.
