Louisville senior Mallory Comerford won her second title of the meet in the 100 free on Saturday night at the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas. About 24 hours after winning the 200 free, Comerford ran down Arkansas’ Anna Hopkin to take her fourth NCAA title in her career with a 46.26.
Hopkin was the early leader through the 75 but was caught at the finish, claiming runner-up at 46.56. Hopkin moved up to sixth all-time with her swim. She was aiming to be the first swimmer from Arkansas to win an NCAA title after the Razorbacks claimed two 3m diving titles in their history.
Michigan’s Siobhan Haughey (46.64) lowered her best time and moved up to eighth all-time in the event. Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil, who swam the final with a wrapped arm, placed fourth for the Golden Bears at 46.97. She was a heavy favorite coming in as the third fastest performer ever. She still has the 400 free relay left for Cal as the Bears are coming down to the wire with Stanford in the team race.
Cal also picked up points from Amy Bilquist in sixth place at 47.42. Stanford picked up four points from Amalie Fackenthal (48.23) in the B-Final. Cal also had Robin Neumann get three points with a 48.24 in the B-Final.
Tennessee’s Erika Brown (46.99), NC State’s Ky-lee Perry (47.43) and Michigan’s Catie DeLoof (47.59) also swam in the A-Final.
