Madisyn Cox Clocks 2:10.29 in 200 IM, Fastest of Year
Madisyn Cox soared to the top time in the world this year in the 200-meter individual medley (long course) on Saturday at the Longhorn Invite.
Cox, swimming for Longhorn Aquatics, clocked a 2:10.29, nearly a half-second off her career-best time (2:09.69) at the 2018 USA nationals.
Her time passes the previous fastest of the year, set by Melanie Margalis (2:10.43).
Cox finished well ahead of the rest of the field at the Longhorn Invite, as Evie Pfeifer finished second in 2:15.78.
Texas senior John Shebat won the 200 IM (2:03.81). Clark Smith, swimming for Longhorn Aquatics, won the 400 free in 3:53.17. Santa Clara’s Nicole Oliva (4:17.26) won the women’s race.
Santa Clara’s Angela Quan, 14, won the 100 fly in 1:02.78.
Texas freshman Grace Ariola won the 50 free (25.37)., while Denver Hilltoppers’ Kyle Robrock won the men’s race in 23.13. Texas sophomore Preston Varozza won the 100 back (57.15), while Scottsdale Aquatic Club’s Greer Pattison, 16, won the women’s race in 1:03.87.
