Madison Kennedy Maintains Top Seed In 50 Free Prelims

Entering the meet with the fastest seed time was Madison Kennedy of SwimMAC who maintained her spot atop the qualifiers list with a swift 24.52 in prelims. That time sits just behind her seventh ranked 24.45 from the Mesa stop of the Arena Pro Series.
After clocking the top two times in last night’s 100 freestyle, sprint superstars Abbey Weitzeil and Simone Manuel continued to dazzle with a sprint battle in heat 17. Manuel got her hand a shy .01 ahead of Weitzeil to grab the second-place seed going into tonight’s semi-final with a 24.57. Weitzeil returns as third with a 24.58.
Newly minted Olympian Olivia Smoliga picked up the fourth place seed with a time of 24.78, while Katrina Konopka was fifth overall with a 24.90.
Three-time Olympian Dana Vollmer finished sixth in prelims with a 24.96 to be the last athlete under the 25-second mark.
Ivy Martin (25.05) and Kelsi Worrell (25.12) rounded out the top eight qualifiers.
Amanda Weir (25.15), Lia Neal (25.16), Maddie Locus (25.27), Katie Meili (25.37), Anika Apostalon (25.43), Taylor Schick (25.48), Caitlin Cooper (25.51) and Anya Goeders (25.53) return as the 9-16 for tonight’s semi-finals.
