NEW COMMIT: Glen Allen, Va. backstroker Maddie Pierce has announced her verbal commitment to the University of South Carolina and will arrive in Columbia at the start of the 2021-22 season.
She will join in-state native Makenzy Mills as a member of the Gamecocks’ class of 2025.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at the Univeristy of South Carolina. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get to where I am today and I can’t wait for my future as a Gamecock! #SpursUp”
Pierce, who owns three Junior National standards, does her club swimming with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics, Inc. and most recently had three top-15 finishes at Virginia Seniors after earning a best time at Juniors East. Last summer, she placed 17th in both the 100m back and 400m IM at Virginia LCM Seniors before going on to notch five lifetime bests at NCSAs.
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 25.52
- 100 back – 54.68
- 200 back – 2:02.67
- 200 IM – 2:04.99
- 400 IM – 4:29.41
- 100 free – 51.96
Also competing for Glen Allen High School, Pierce is a three-time Virginia Class 5 State Championship finalist. She placed fifth in the 100 free and sixth in the 200 IM as a junior while taking fifth in the 100 back during her freshman season.
