Luca Urlando to Make Return to Competition After Shoulder Surgery
Luca Urlando will make his return this week following shoulder surgery.
Urlando is on the psych sheets for the Sun Devil Open at Arizona State, which runs Friday-Sunday, competing for the Davis Aquadarts.
In the fall, Urlando underwent shoulder surgery after dislocating it during a World cup race in Indianapolis early in the 2022-23 school year and missed the rest of the season for the University of Georgia. He has been in recovery since and has not raced. He has two years remaining of eligibility at Georgia and could apply for another medical redshirt year because of his injury.
Luca Urlando, a five-time world junior champion, is slated to swim the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle at the Sun Devil Open, easing back into the water after the injury and not putting the strain on his shoulders of a butterfly or backstroke race.
The meet will see Sun Devil pro group Regan Smith, Chase Kalisz, Simone Manuel, Hali Flickinger, Jay Litherland, Olivia Smoliga and Grant House, as well as Ryan Held and a plethora of other strong swimmers, mostly form the West, including Urlando.
Prelims begin at 9 a.m. local time with 6 p.m. finals each day.
