LSU Tigers Enter 2021 Recruiting Game With Verbal from Oregon 5A State Champion Abby Maoz
NEW COMMIT: Louisiana State University has scored their first verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from breaststroker Abigail “Abby” Maoz of Wilsonville, Ore.
Maoz, who owns a pair of Summer Juniors standards, swims year-round with Tigard Tualatin Swim Club and most recently competed in both breaststroke events at Junior Nationals this past summer. Last winter, she competed in the 100/200 breast combo at Juniors West before going on to finish eighth and 11th, respectively, in those events at Federal Way Sectionals.
A current junior at Wilsonville High School, Maoz is a four-time Oregon 5A State Championship finalist. She won the 100 breast as a freshman and successfully defended her title during her sophomore season, also grabbing silver in the 100 fly in 2019. She has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in her career thus far.
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:02.82
- 200 breast – 2:17.49
- 200 IM – 2:10.84
Maoz will add much-needed depth to the Tigers’ breaststroke group when she arrives in Baton Rouge as a member of the class of 2024 and will join a training group led by current freshman Niamh Robinson. It took a 1:01.92/2:13.24 to score in the 100/200 breast at the 2019 SEC Championships, but with just under two years of club swimming still to go, Maoz will surely continue to improve.
