Louisville Swimmers Sweep ACC Weekly Honors
Louisville took home four of the six spots on offer at the second ACC Weekly Honors on Tuesday afternoon.
Denis Petrashov and Gabi Albiero were named men’s and women’s swimmer of the week. Louisville’s Che Stephens and Else Praasterink shared Diver of the Week honors with the Notre Dame duo of Carlo Lopez Hernandez and Calie Brady.
Petrashov won three events at the SMU Classic. The native of Kyrgyzstan captured the 100 breast, 200 breast and swam on the winning 400 medley relay. He was also on the third-place 200 medley relay squad. The 100 breast time of 51.95 is the fastest in the country in this young season.
Albiero won all four of her events at the SMU Classic. Her time of 21.75 claimed the 50 free; it’s a nation-leading time, as is her 51.16 100 butterfly. She also won the 100 free and as part of the 200 free relay, while swimming on a second-place 200 medley relay and third-place 400 medley relay.
Stephens won both diving events in a meet with Auburn. He scored 344.03 to win 1-meter and 324.00 on 3-meter.
Lopez Hernandez shined in Notre Dame’s meet with Wisconsin. The grad student from Canada earned NCAA zone scores by scoring 326.48 on 1-meter and 340.20 in 3-meter.
Praasterink won both women’s diving events at the SMU Classic. The Dutch international scored 259.70 on 1-meter and 297.55 on 3-meter.
Brady won both of the women’s diving events against Wisconsin. She scored 278.63 to claim 1-meter and 293.33 on 3-meter. Both are NCAA zone scores.
