Louisville Adds Trevor Maida to Coaching Staff

Louisville on Tuesday announced the hiring of Trevor Maida, bringing the assistant coach over after four seasons at the University of Wisconsin.

Maida joins the staff of Louisville coach Arthur Albiero as an assistant coach.

“We did an extensive national search and Trevor’s name kept coming up from a lot of people in the business that I highly respect in our sport,” Albiero said in a university statement. “Once we got to know him, it was a natural fit for our staff. He is a high energy guy, excited about coaching and a bit of a visionary and those qualities fit us perfectly. It was a great match all the way around and certainly we are excited about what he brings to the table as we continue to build what we have in the past 20 years.”

Maida helped the Badgers men’s team finish 23rd at NCAAs last year and the women take home 15th place. It’s the best finish for each program since 2017.

The men’s team at Wisconsin placed fourth at the Big Ten Championships three of the last four years, after nearly two decades without such a high finish at the league meet. The women’s team has been in the top 20 at NCAAs each of the last two seasons.

Among the swimmers Maida has worked with are Taiko Torepe-Ormsby, a New Zealand record holder, and Beata Nelson, a three-time Big Ten champion in 2020.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the University of Louisville Swim and Dive staff,” Maida said. “Under Arthur Albiero’s guidance, the UofL has developed into an elite program filled with dedicated people who have built a championship culture. I want to thank Arthur for trusting me with this opportunity to learn the Louisville way and contribute to the program’s future success.”

A native of Hauppauge, New York, Maida’s swimming career at St. Bonaventure was cut short by injury. He began his coaching career in Olean, spending two and a half years as a student assistant for head coach Sean McNamee. He was a volunteer assistant at Indiana in 2018-19, a year in which the Hoosiers swept the men’s and women’s Big Ten titles for the first time in program history, before being hired in 2019 by Wisconsin.
