NEW COMMIT: Louisiana State has received a verbal commitment from breaststroker Emily Pye. The Maryville, Tenn. native will join the Tigers as part of the class of 2023 along with Olivia Taylor.

Pye does her club swimming with Tennessee Aquatics under head coach Larry Hough and has achieved the Winter Nationals standard in the 100 breast. She concluded her summer with five best times at the Southeastern LCM Championships where she made three finals appearances. She competed in both breaststroke distances at Juniors East and won the 200 breast at the 2017 Music City Invite.

Also representing Maryville Christian School, Pye is a four-time TISCA State Championships finalist. During her junior season, she finished fourth in the 100 breast and tenth in the 200 IM after placing 13th in the 100 breast during her sophomore campaign.

She told Swimming World:

“I chose LSU because I immediately felt at home upon walking onto campus. Coming from a small high school, the large university atmosphere with competitive athletics was exactly what I was looking for. The coaches and team were so welcoming and I can’t wait to be a part of this incredible program.”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:03.05
  • 200 breast – 2:19.57
  • 200 IM – 2:09.73
  • 50 free – 24.85
When Pye arrives in Baton Rouge for the 2019-20 season, she’ll join a breaststroke training group that includes Olivia Paskulin and Catherine Lowengrub. Although she sits just outside of scoring range at the SEC Championships, Pye’s best breaststroke times would’ve ranked third on the Tigers’ lineup last season.
