Louisiana D1 State Record Holder Charles Korndorffer Sends Verbal to Notre Dame
NEW COMMIT: The Fighting Irish have picked up a new verbal commitment from Charles Korndorffer, who will make his way to Indiana from New Orleans, La. next fall.
Korndorffer does his club swimming with Nu Wave Swim Club and owns a pair of U.S. Open cuts. He won the 50m fly at NCSA Championships over the summer and was a two-time champion at the Louisiana LCM Championship. He made five finals appearances at NCSAs in March – including a third-place showing in the 50 fly – and finished 15th in the 100 fly at Juniors West in December.
He also swims for Jesuit High School where he is a five-time LHSAA DI State Championships finalist. He won the 100 fly and 100 back as a junior to help his team win the State title en route to being named Swimmer of the Meet after setting D1 records in his events. The NISCA All-American finished second in both of those events as a sophomore.
He told Swimming World:
“There has never been a better time to be a part of the Notre Dame family, in or out of the pool. The team, the education, and the community are just small pieces of an amazing environment. Go Irish”
His best times include:
- 50 fly – 21.97
- 100 fly – 48.09
- 200 fly – 1:48.87
- 100 back – 49.22
- 200 back – 1:51.90
Korndorffer will make an immediate impact for Notre Dame when he arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season and he’ll add more sprint butterfly depth to a talented training group that includes Aaron Schultz and Brendan Santana. The Irish finished fourth at the 2018 ACC Championships under head coach Mike Litzinger.
