Longhorns Keep Avery Collins, Ella Mongenel In The Lone Star State For 2025

NEW COMMITS: The University of Texas has received two more verbal pledges for Fall 2025, this time from in-state standouts Avery Collins of Keller and Ella Mongenel of Cedar Park.

Both talented swimmers will join Haley McDonald in Austin as members of the Longhorns’ Class of 2029.

Avery Collins

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Texas🧡🤍!!! Collins does her club swimming with Lakeside Aquatic Club and most recently placed sixth in the 200 breast and seventh in the 400 IM at Juniors West. She earned bronze in the 200m breast this past summer at Junior Nationals, also taking sixth in the 100m breast.

Her best times include:

  • 200 breast – 2:10.42
  • 100 breast – 1:02.47
  • 400 IM – 4:14.03
  • 200 IM – 2:00.22

Currently a junior at Keller High School, Collins raced to third in the 200 IM and sixth in the 100 breast at the 2023 Texas UIL 6A State Championships. She placed 15th and eighth, respectively, as a freshman.

Ella Mongenel

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“It is with great enthusiasm and gratitude to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at the University of Texas!  This is an exciting next step in my journey that would not have been possible without the guidance and support of my family, coaches, teammates, and friends.  I would also like to thank the UT coaching staff for this amazing opportunity to be a Longhorn!  HOOK ‘EM Horns & Let’s Go”

Mongenel trains year-round with Nitro Swimming and earned an eighth-place finish in the 50 free at Juniors West earlier this month. She sprinted to fourth in the 50m free and 10th in the 100m free at Austin Sectionals back in July before going on to compete at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.61
  • 100 free – 49.76
  • 200 free – 1:50.54
  • 100 breast – 1:03.49
  • 100 fly – 55.37
  • 100 back – 57.09
  • 200 IM – 2:03.27

Mongenel is a junior at Cedar Park High School. She won the 50 free and took second in the 100 free at the 2023 Texas UIL 5A State Championships, a year after seeing respective fourth- and third-place showings.
