Japanese breaststroker Ryo Tateishi has announced his retirement. The 2012 Olympic bronze medalist swam his final races at the Japanese National Championships last month.

The above photo was of Tateishi and countryman Kosuke Kitajima from after the 200 breast prelims at the London Olympic Games. Kitajima was the two-time defending champion in the event, but Tateishi edged out his more-heralded countryman to win the bronze medal in the final, 2:08.29 to 2:08.35.

Tateishi also posted a photo from his retirement press conference.
