LIVE: British Championships, Day 5 Finals: Burras Wins 50 Free In 21.77; Scott Goes 1:56.08 In 200IM, Dean Inside Cut
The penultimate finals session of the British Championships feature Lewis Burras and Ben Proud go head to head for the 50 free crown in Sheffield.
Duncan Scott and Tom Dean meet in the 200IM with Abbie Wood dominant in the women’s equivalent in Saturday morning’s prelims.
The six-day meet doubles as trials for June’s World Championships in Budapest and an opportunity for swimmers to post consideration times for their respective home nations at the Commonwealth Games in July.

Men’s 800 freestyle
Budapest qualification time: 7:49.58
Dan Jervis was preselected in the 1500 and it was a race against the clock on Saturday with the Welshman dominant but outside the cut in 7:50.35.
Women’s 50 backstroke
Medi Harris was quickest in prelims in 28.02 but it was Lauren Cox who took the win in 27.83, 0.01 ahead of Harris in 27.84.
Men’s 50 freestyle
Budapest qualification time: 21.79
Burras went 21.90 in heats – a time only he and Proud have bettered among British men – with Proud booking a slot alongside him in 22.25.
Burras took the title in 21.77 to secure the sprint double after going 47.88 in the 100 free with Proud – already preselected for Budapest – second in 21.91.
Women’s 400 freestyle
Budapest qualification time: 4:05.22
Tamryn van Selm was swiftest in heats with the eight-length race the last opportunity for Freya Anderson to all but guarantee an individual berth in Budapest.
Freya Colbert led namesake Freya Anderson until 375 when the Tokyo Olympian surged and stopped the clock in 4:08.46, a four-second PB.
Colbert was second in 4:09.04 – also a PB – with Mia Slevin third.
Men’s 200IM
Budapest qualification time: 1:57.61
Duncan Scott had already been preselected thanks to his Olympic silver medal in Tokyo.
The British record holder led from start to finish to stop the clock in 1:56.08 with Tom Dean coming back on the final 50 to get inside the cut on 1:57.18.
Women’s 200IM
Budapest selection policy: 2:10.98
Abbie Wood was on course for a hat-trick of titles after already claiming the 200 free and 200 breaststroke.
Wood, preselected after fourth in Tokyo, led throughout and extended her lead on the final 50 to stop the clock at 2:11.03.
