Lima – the capital city of Peru – will stage the 8th FINA World Junior Championships after replacing Kazan as host city following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The meet was due to take place in the Russian city in August only for the world federation to cancel it in February.

Instead, the South American city will play host for the second time after first staging the event at the Campo de Marte pool in 2011 with the meet running from 30 August-4 September.

More than 600 athletes – aged 14-17 for women and 15-18 for men – are expected to compete at Lima’s Videna Aquatic Centre, which hosted the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and the men’s and women’s FINA World League Water Polo Intercontinental 2022 tournaments.

A national aquatics training centre, the facility includes 50m competition and 50m training pools with seating for 3000 spectators.
