MAUI, Hawaii, August 28. Two more meet records fell by the wayside during night two of the Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
Women’s 100 free
Australia’s Shayna Jack clipped teammate Chelsea Gillett, 54.82 to 54.93, for the 100-meter freestyle title after already taking second in the 200 free on night one. That’s just shy of Simone Manuel’s meet record of 54.60 from 2012.
China’s Zhu Menghui finished third overall in 55.14, while USA’s Stanzi Moseley earned fourth in 55.41.
Japan’s Rikako Ikee (55.60), USA’s Amy Bilquist (56.07), Japan’s Sachi Mochida (56.66) and Canada’s Heather Lam (56.71) rounded out the A final.
Australia’s Lucy McJannett didn’t waste much time throwing down a strong time in the B final as she raced to a 54.93 for the win. That’s more than a second ahead of USA’s Katie Drabot, who posted a 55.90.
Korea’s Dalin Lee (57.13), China’s Zhu Yifei (57.41), Canada’s Lili Margitai (57.42), Canada’s Alexandra Aitchison (57.56), China’s Li Tete (57.69) and Mexico’s Ana Sofia Revilak (58.08) also competed in the consolation heat.

For the first time this meet, the two-per-country rule wound up having the B final putting up a faster time than the championship heat. USA’s Paul Powers touched out teammate Blake Pieroni by the slimmest of margins, 50.29 to 50.30, while Canada’s Markus Thormeyer wound up third in 50.40. Australia’s Blake Jones (50.47), Australia’s Vincent Dai (50.64), Japan’s Katsuhiro Matsumoto (50.83), Canada’s Mitchel Ferraro (51.18) and Japan’s Fuyu Yoshida (52.13) comprised the rest of the A final.
USA’s Townley Haas, already a winner in the 200 free on night one, won the B final in 49.55. That’s a personal best for Haas, lowering his 49.69 from junior nationals. Australia’s Brayden McCarthy touched second in 50.36 with Canada’s Cameron Kidd hitting the wall third in 51.11.
New Zealand’s Julian Weir (51.70), Mexico’s Lorenzo Loria Elias (52.09), Japan’s Koki Tanaka (52.60), China’s Jin Chenghao (52.80) and New Zealand’s Dominic Mildon (53.01) also put up times in the consolation finale.
