Lilly King Goes 1:05 in Winning 100 Breast at Speedo Sectionals
Lilly King’s 1:05.32 was one of the fastest swims of Night 3 of the Speedo Sectionals, split between the IUPUI Natatorium and Elkhart, Indiana.
King, who narrowly bested Annie Lazor in the 200 breast Friday night, got the better of her again Saturday. King went 1:05.32 at Indy, well ahead of Lazor’s 1:06.86. Miranda Tucker was the fastest at the Elkhart section at 1:08.37.
The men’s 100 breast was the other compelling race of the night, with Cody Miller and Josh Matheny tying for the victory in 1:00.31. Matheny topped Miller in the 200 breast on Friday night. Third was Charlie Swanson at 1:01.67 in Elkhart, with Youssef El Kamash fourth in 1:02.19.
Most of the winners were produced by the Speedo Sectionals at Indy. Berit Berglund outkicked Josephine Raney in a 15-16 battle in the women’s 100 backstroke, Berglund winning in 1:01.20, a margin of .34 seconds. Lucy Malys claimed the 400 free in 4:16.22 and was second in the 200 fly (2:14.46). Second in the 400 free was 200 fly winner Hannah Bellard in 2:13.91 from the Elkhart section.
On the men’s side, William Modglin won the men’s 100 back in a time of 55.04. Second was Mohamed Hassan in 55.72. The 400 free went to Zachary Ward in 3:58.97, he and Griffin Hadley (3:59.02) both breaking four minutes. Miles Smachlo won the 200 fly in 1:59.45 from the Elkhart sectional, with Ward second in 2:00.98.
