Payton Keiner gave Liberty University its second verbal commitment of the evening. Kiah Francis also gave her verbal pledge to the Flames.
Keiner said,
“I chose Liberty because it is the perfect fit for me to grow as an Christian, student, and athlete. It had a special and one of a kind combination of fast swimming, outstanding academics, and a loving, wholesome atmosphere. I’m ecstatic to be joining the Liberty Women’s Swimming and Diving family!”
Keiner is from Cincinnati, Ohio and swims for Powel Crosley Jr. YMCA. She is primarily a backstroker and also has strong IMs and sprint freestyle times.
Her best short course events are:
- 50 Back 26.37
- 100 Back 54.59
- 200 Back 1:58.58
- 200 IM 2:04.24
- 50 Free 23.74
- 100 Free 51.20
While the Flames were second at the 2016 CCSA Championships, they should move closer to the top in 2018 given Francis’ and Keiner’s point scoring potential. Keiner would have been an A finalist in the 100 and 200 back and 100 freestyle and a B finalist in the 200 IM and 50 freestyle. Depending on how the team develops, Keiner could also earn her way onto the 400 freestyle relay. Last year’s runner up squad posted splits ranging from 50.12 to 50.47. Two of those four legs will have graduated by Keiner’s arrival in Lynchburg next fall.
