Lia Thomas Claims Top Seed in 200 Freestyle During Day Three Prelims At Ivy League Champs
Lia Thomas, coming off a victory and pool record in the 500-yard freestyle from a night earlier, claimed the top seed for the final of the 200 freestyle at the Ivy League Women’s Swimming Championships on Friday morning. The University of Pennsylvania senior, a transgender athlete who previously competed for three years as a member of the school’s men’s team, turned in a prelim time of 1:44.91. That effort handed Thomas the top seed by more than a second, with Harvard’s Molly Hamlin checking in second at 1:46.66.
Thomas has already been faster in the 200 freestyle during the Ivy League Champs, as she went 1:44.50 as the leadoff leg of Penn’s 800 freestyle relay. Meanwhile, Thomas owns the top time in the country this season, having gone 1:41.93 at the Zippy Invitational in early December. The 200 freestyle could produce her second title of the meet, following her triumph in the 500 freestyle. During that event, Thomas prevailed by more than seven seconds and negative-split her race.
Having undergone male puberty, Thomas has been the subject of controversy throughout the winter, due to the belief that she is competing with an unfair advantage. While she has been supported by the Ivy League and some members of her team and the swimming community, others have protested her competing against biological females. Thomas was ranked in the mid-400s in the 500 freestyle when racing in men’s competition, but is ranked No. 1 in the NCAA against female competition.
He is sandbagging his swims and anyone with an ounce of common sense can see this. He can swim much faster but is pretending he can’t. This insanity must stop and the best way is to have a chromosomal test. If you’re XX, you swim with the females and XY, you swim with the men. The Lia Thomas’s will ruin women’s athletics if nothing is done as soon as possible.
Agree 100%
Two Trans athletes win big!! Lia and Izzi Henig showed the transphobic crowd that it is okay for Izzi (a him on a her team) and Lia ( a her on a her team) to compete and win. And for those that want to segregate trans into their own category, you probably also want to segregate racial identity into its own category so you won’t have to be in the same pool as anyone who doesn’t look like you. Get red of the segregation and let the best, regardless of gender or skin color, compete with the best. Anything less is sexist and racist.
Naw.. I can’t unblack myself. But you can be trans one year and then not be trans 5 years later.
If I’m born handicapped, I can’t unhandicap myself .
There’s a reason woman don’t run as fast as men.. or jump as high.. it’s called your chromosomes lol..
Grow up
What you’re doing is called forced pairing. In other words, you’re trying to force racial minorities to be on the same side as transgender individuals so you can leverage anti-racist sentiment for political gain.
It won’t work.
Confused why a transman is swimming on the women’s team?
Izzi Henig is a trans – female to male – that swims for the Yale female team. He doesn’t get nearly the hate that Lia gets (for some sexist reason). Strange no?
Season not at all strange. Izzi decided not to take any drugs to transition to a man until after swimming so he could continue to swim with the women. He had the choice to swim on either team. So tell me why in the world would he choose to swim with the men when he wouldn’t even be able to qualify to swim at the Ivy Champs as a man if he did, times are too slow. If anyone is being sexist it’s Izzi!

Because she’ll never beat the men at the elite level. Never. Won’t even get close, it’s a no brainer.
I’m enjoying, and agreeing with, your posts Season.
Injecting opinion into what should be an objective article about a competition: “ Having undergone male puberty, Thomas has been the subject of controversy throughout the winter, due to the belief that she is competing with an unfair advantage.”
Only thing I would have against Izzi if she were to use testosterone or other drugs that could enhance her performance.
If she’s waiting to use testosterone or other drugs until she’s done competing, then she’s following the rules and is a female swimmer. It’s all good.
Lia could have waited to suppress testosterone and swam with the males. We’d all be good as far as the competition goes. But that’s not the choice he made.
God it’s painfully obvious how dead SWMs traffic is when they can’t get right wing loons arguing about Lia Thomas.
Honestly the worst thing that could happen for you guys is for Lia to get banned, because then people would stop reading your site again.
