Letitia Sim Pulls Off Impressive Double at NCSA Spring Championships

The Sim sisters were once again busy putting on a show at the National Club Swimming Association Spring Championships on Friday night.

Letitia Sim started her family’s surge by winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.18, which was more than a second clear of runnerup Zoe Skirboll, who touched the wall in 1:00.19. A Michigan recruit, Sim would have placed in the consolation final at the NCAA Championships, and she was just getting started.

With minimal rest between races, Sim returned to also claim gold in the 100 butterfly, with her 14-year-old sister, Levenia Sim, placing third. The elder Sim won the 100 fly in 52.77, her victory combination evidence of the versatility she will bring to Ann Arbor and the Big Ten Conference. Campbell Stoll was second in 52.81, with the younger Sim going 53.17.

The Sim siblings have highlighted action in Orlando, the biggest show the National Age Group (NAG) record by Levenia Sim in the 100-yard backstroke on Thursday night.

In the women’s 500 freestyle, Lucy Malys fended off a late charge by fellow 16-year-old Claire Tuggle to win the event in 4:42.55. Tuggle was closing at the wall but finished .02 back in 4:42.57. Trey Dickey was the winner of the men’s version of the event, going 4:23.66. Tyler Spillane was the first-place finisher in the men’s 100 breaststroke, thanks to a time of 53.57, which clipped the 53.65 of Daniel Worth. William Hayon prevailed in the 100 butterfly in 47.21.
