Leonardo De Deus Cranks Out Top 5 Time in 200 Breast in Brazil
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, May 10. THE Brazilian Winter Nationals came to a close with a few more world-class times going up on the board.
Leonardo De Deus demonstrated his consistency by matching his season best in the men’s 200-meter fly. He dropped a time of 1:56.21 in the event tonight to match his fourth-ranked season best from the Maria Lenk Trophy meet. That also cut more than two seconds off De Deus’ meet record of 1:58.81 from last year in Curitiba. Marco De Oliveira finished second in 1:59.78, while Lauro Cabral picked up third in 2:01.32.
Felipe Da Silva, who broke into the top five in the world in the men’s 50-meter breast on night one, popped a meet-record 1:00.10 in the men’s 100-meter breast tonight. That’s not far off his sixth-ranked season best of 59.91 from the Maria Lenk Trophy meet in Sao Paulo earlier this season. Joao Gomes Jr., who stands 10th with a 1:00.40 from the same meet, finished second tonight in 1:00.95. Raphael Oliveira touched third in 1:01.59.

With the top Brazilian swimmers already having posted top times at the Maria Lenk Trophy meet, Alan Vitoria had the chance to win a title with a 22.65. Italo Duarte placed second in 22.74 with Andre Daudt taking third in 22.78.
Pamela Souza turned in a meet-record 1:10.74 in the women’s 100-meter breast, while Ana Carvalho touched second in 1:11.48. Thamy Ventorin rounded out the top three in 1:12.36.
