Legacy Harry Homans Verbally Commits to UNC For Fall 2019
NEW COMMIT: Harry Homans, a senior at Barrington High School in Barrington, Rhode Island has announced his verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for the fall of 2019. The high school senior will graduate this spring and take a gap year before heading to the Tar Heel state.
Homans played a critical role in Barrington High School’s recent second place finish at the RIIL Boys State Championship meet. In a remarkable string of record-setting performances, he registered meet record, first place individual finishes in the 200 free (1:38.39) and the 100 fly (49.15) and as a member of the 200 medley relay, swimming the backstroke leg (23.23) and as the anchor on the 400 free relay (45.60).
Homans does his club swimming for Bluefish Swim Club in Attleboro, Massachusetts under Head Coach Chuck Batchelor. He’ll remain with the program in his gap year. Swimming at the 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships, last summer he achieved a best time in the 200 IM (2:07.28) and earned an evening swim in the C final of the 200 backstroke with another personal best (2:02.82).
In short course, he achieved personal bests and Summer Juniors qualifying times in the 100 back (49.24), 100 fly (48.84) and 400 IM (3:54.40) at the New England Senior Championships in December 2017.
At the ACC Championship Homan’s best times would earn him a C finals swim in the 200 backstroke and place him just outside scoring range in the 400 IM.
His best times are: (SCY/LCM)
- 100 Backstroke: 49.24/57.75
- 200 Backstroke: 1:45.98/2:02.31
- 200 IM: 1:50.34/2:07.03

- 400/500 Freestyle: 4:33.49/4:03.98

Homans will be following in his father’s footsteps as he heads south to Chapel Hill as his father, Fritz Homans was an All American swimmer at UNC-Chapel Hill from 1976-1980.
Homans said of his decision,
“The combination of the swim program, academics, and campus culture is why I chose UNC. I cannot wait to join a great team with a great culture in the Fall of 2019 and I am excited to continue the Homans legacy at Carolina. Go Heels!”
