STANFORD, California, October 15. Leah Stevens, the top-ranked recruit in Collegeswimming.com‘s 2015 rankings, has made her college decision: Stevens is headed to Stanford next fall to swim for head coach Greg Meehan.
Stevens, a member of USA Swimming’s National Junior Team, attends Sacred Heart Academy and trains with Lakeside Swim Team, both in Louisville, Ken. She excels at a wide range of events, from mid-distance free to breast to IM, and will help the Cardinal right away in a lot of areas.
Her best events include the 200 free (1:47.95), 500 free (4:43.10), 1650 free (16:07.77), 200 IM (1:59.95) and 400 IM (4:12.98). She’s also a strong breaststroker, with a personal best of 1:02.94 in the 100 and 2:16.02 in the 200, and could contribute dual meet points in the 100 fly (56.60) as well. Stevens’ 1650 free time would have placed 15th at the 2014 NCAA Championships, while her IM times would’ve been just outside the top 16 in those events.
Stevens competed at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in August and already has solid national experience after competing at the 2012 Olympic Trials.
