Leah Smith, 2X Olympic Medalist, Re-Signs With TYR Sport
TYR Sport is proud to announce the re-signing of 2x Olympic medalist and 9x World Championship medalist Leah Smith to its roster of sponsored athletes.
Since the onset of her swimming career Leah Smith has proven to be a dominant force in the pool. During her time competing for the University of Virginia, she won four NCAA titles and became a double World Champion with gold medal performances in the 400m and 800m freestyle events. At the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, Leah brought home a gold medal for her participation on the women’s 4 x 200m free relay, as well as an individual bronze in the women’s 400m free. However, since her Olympic performance, Smith has shown no signs of slowing down. In 2017 Leah was the only American athlete (male or female) to qualify to swim five individual events at the FINA Long Course World Championships.
Most recently, Leah picked up two silver medals at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Swimming Championships before taking home silver and three bronze medals at the 2018 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Tokyo. Leah also earned podium finishes for her swims in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay and the 800m freestyle at the 2018 FINA Short Course World Championships.
Looking ahead to 2020, Leah is set to once again make waves on the world’s stage. Working in conjunction with the TYR design team, Leah played a major role in the production of TYR Sport’s most anticipated technical suit: The TYR VenzoTM.
“Leah Smith continues to be a mainstay on podiums year after year,” began TYR Sport Chief Executive Officer Matt DiLorenzo. “Her versatility is amazing, and we believe in her potential to take things to the next level in 2020.”
“I am thrilled to continue working with TYR through 2020,” started Smith. “As a brand, the values that TYR stands by could not be more dear to me. TYR’s dedication to being ambitious, innovative, and courageous have been instrumental in my success. I have proudly watched TYR experience considerable growth and success over the past year and a half, and I know great things will continue to be on the horizon. I am looking forward to my continued growth as an athlete and person alongside TYR, along with our incredible team through 2020.”
