Layni Andrle, Kailey Turner Both Announce Verbal Commitments to New Mexico

NEW COMMITS: The University of New Mexico has received two new verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Ham Lake, Minn. native Layni Andrle and Kailey Turner of Magnolia, Texas.

Both talented swimmers will join Taylor Murphy and Caitlin Beery as a member of the Lobos’ class of 2025.

Under head coach Keegan Ingelido, New Mexico finished eighth overall in the team standings at the 2020 Mountain West Championships.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am very proud and thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of New Mexico! The amazing, supportive coaching staff and team along with the outstanding Biology and Spanish departments greatly drew me to UNM. I’m beyond thankful for my wonderful family, friends, coaches, teammates and teachers that have helped me reach this point! I can’t wait to be a part of this wonderful team for the next four years!! #GoLobos #Lobos4Life”

A strong IMer, Andrle does her club swimming with Edina Swim Club and finaled in the 400 IM at Minnesota Seniors in March and took eighth in the 1000 free at at December’s Winter Classic. She had six top-20 finishes at Minnesota LCM Seniors last long course season before going on to race five events at NCSAs.

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:08.54
  • 400 IM – 4:36.08
  • 500 free – 5:08.85
  • 1000 free – 10:50.50

Andrle is currently a senior at Centennial High School where she competed at the Minnesota Class AA State Championships during her freshman season.

KAILEY TURNER

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of New Mexico! I am extremely grateful for my family, coaches, teammates and friends that have helped me reach this point. I can’t wait to spend the next four years with this amazing team. Go Lobos!!!”

Primarily a freestyler and butterflyer, Turner swims year-round with Magnolia Aquatic Club and placed 18th in the 100 fly at TWST Southern Seniors in December. Last summer, she recorded two lifetime bests at Austin Sectionals before going on to take fifth in the 100m fly and sixth in the 50m fly at Southern Zone Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 53.78
  • 200 free – 1:53.92
  • 100 fly – 57.58
  • 200 fly – 2:06.97

Also competing for Magnolia High School, Turner raced the 100 fly at the Texas 5A State Championships during her sophomore season. She also finaled in both the 100 fly and 200 free in 2020 at the 5A UIL Region 06 meet en route to picking up best times in those events.
