Lauren Long of Nation’s Capital Swim Club Selects UMass Amherst
NEW COMMIT: Futures qualifier Lauren Long of Ashburn, Va. has announced her commitment to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2021.
She told Swimming World:
“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst! Thank you to my coaches, family, and friends that have supported me throughout this process. It is the perfect place for me to grow as a student and athlete. #gominutemen”
A talented breaststroker and IMer, Long trains year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and most recently placed 11th in the 100 breast and 12th in the 200 breast at the 18&U Winter Championships – Potomac Valley. In Summer 2019, she finaled in the 200m breast at Potomac Valley LCM Seniors before going on to earn two best times at Geneva Futures.
Her best times include:
- 50 breast – 31.23
- 100 breast – 1:05.66
- 200 breast – 2:22.36
- 200 IM – 2:07.97
Also competing for Broad Run High School, Long is a four-time individual Virginia State Championship finalist. She finished fourth in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 IM as a junior at the 4A meet while taking sixth and 12th, respectively, in those events at the 5A meet during her sophomore season.
Under head coach Sean Clark, the Minutemen finished seventh overall in the team standings at the 2020 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships.
