Lauren Cooper Announces Verbal Commitment to Akron Zips
NEW COMMIT: Lauren Cooper of Ohio State Swim Club has given her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Akron beginning next fall. She’s from Dublin, Ohio where she attends Jerome High School.
A freestyler and backstroker, Cooper’s best times include:
- 50 Back 27.73
- 100 Back 59.18
- 200 Back 2:08.58
- 50 Free 24.76
- 100 Free 52.66
- 200 Free 1:56.54
Cooper told Swimming World,
“I chose Akron because as soon as I stepped on campus, I immediately felt at home. The education program combines both of the areas that I’m interested in and the department sounds very inviting! The girls on the team instantly made me feel like I was already a Zip. I love the coaches and the program and I’m extremely excited to improve my swimming and work the coaches and the team.”
Cooper’s lifetime best in the 100 free is about a second shy of what it took to final at the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships, but she still has a year to keep improving before her collegiate debut. She’ll join a Zip sprint group that will still be led by Ragen Engel, Madison Myers, and Morgan Waggoner next fall. The trio were all A finalists at last year’s meet. Madison Myers and Ellie Nebraska will be the leading returners on the backstroke front next season.
Cooper’s Ohio State Swim Club teammates Jason Mathews, Benjamin Kuriger and Hudson McDaniel are verbally committed to Ohio State. Eddie Michael is headed to Arizona State and Rachel Peroni has pledged her verbal commitment to Duke.
I love this team name!
