Laszlo Cseh On Fire at 2016 Geneva International
Laszlo Cseh has been on fire during the first two days of competition at the 2016 Geneva International meet. He’s picked up four wins and downed two meet records thus far.
Day 1
Laszlo Cseh, who ranked third in the world with a 50.87 at Worlds, won the men’s 100-meter fly in 52.55. Nils Liess (53.75) and Aleksi Schmid (54.59) wook second and third behind him.
Kate Ziegler dominated the women’s 400-meter free in a time of 4:14.76. Zsuzsanna Jakabos placed a distant second in 4:20.07 with Hannah Burvill earning third in 4:21.58.
Jakabos returned in the women’s 200-meter back with a 2:14.91 for the win. Isobel Jones (2:19.81) and Alex Froissart (2:20.74) closed out the top three.
Jakabos took second in the women’s 200-meter IM with a 2:16.03. Laura Letrari won in 2:15.82 with Constance Dean placing third in 2:18.15.
Molly Hannis claimed the women’s 50-meter breast in a time of 31.28 with Dean taking second in 33.42. Lisa Mamie wound up third in 33.43.
Brad Craig hit the wall in 2:16.60 to win the men’s 200-meter breast. Jacques Lauffer (2:17.01) and Jolann Bovey (2:21.88) claimed second and third.
Andrey Grechin topped the men’s 100-meter free in 50.36. Alex Haldemann (50.49) and Vlad Popov (50.74) wound up second and third.
Nils Liess won the men’s 50-meter back in 26.53 with Timothy Schlatter tying Thierry Bollin with matching 26.93s.
Logan Fontaine turned in a 16:00.79 to win the men’s 1500-meter free. Max Murphy (16:10.20) and Andrea Mozzini-Vellen (16:20.86) finished second and third.
Svenja Stoffel captured the women’s 100-meter fly in 59.97. Sasha Touretski (1:00.27) and Maria Ugolkova (1:00.83) rounded out the podium.
Day 2
Madison Kennedy set a meet record in the women’s 100-meter free with a time of 55.19. That swim cleared the 55.33 set by Camille Muffat back in 2014. Maria Ugolkova (56.02) and Hannah Burvill (56.95) finished second and third.
Kennedy took down a second meet record with a 29.27 in the women’s 50-meter back. That swim lowered the 29.53 set by Laura Letrari during prelims. Letrari took second tonight in 29.47 with Seraina Sturzenegger claiming third in 30.85.
Laszlo Cseh started the day with a 3:57.16 to win the men’s 400-meter free. Julian Chan Quee Lin (3:59.31) and Lounis Khendriche (4:00.56) took second and third.
Cseh doubled up with a meet-record time of 23.60 in the men’s 50-meter fly. That swim beat the 24.59 set by Igor Marchenko back in 2009, and was half-a-second off Cseh’s third-ranked 23.06 from last year. Andrey Grechin (24.59) and Vlad Popov (24.60) finished second and third.
Cseh tripled with a meet-record time of 2:00.00 in the men’s 200-meter IM. That effort smashed the previous record of 2:05.17 set by Lucien Hassdenteufel back in 2009. Dominic Polling (2:07.78) and Barnabe Charmey (2:10.36) closed out the top three.
Damir Dugonjic downed his own meet record in the men’s 50-meter breast with a 27.71. That effort eclipsed the 27.78 he set during prelims. Brad Craig took second in 28.91 with Jolann Bovey earning third in 29.32.
Constance Dean touched out Lisa Mamie for the women’s 200-meter breast title, 2:34.19 to 2:34.23. Alex Froissart placed third in 2:38.26.
Nils Liess picked up the men’s 200-meter back crown in 2:01.88. Theo Goguey placed second in 2:08.67 with Alex Tschabuschnig (2:09.91) taking third.
Isobel Jones won the women’s 800-meter free in 9:03.86. Lea Marchal (9:04.40) and Charline Mace (9:10.68) closed out the top three.
Svenja Stoffel won the women’s 50-meter fly in 26.95. Sasha Touretski (27.12) and Hannah Burvill (27.92) took second and third.
