Laramie Swim Club’s Katie McPherson Will Stay In State, Verbals to Wyoming for Fall 2021
NEW COMMIT: Laramie, Wyo. native Katelyn “Katie” McPherson has opted to stay in-state for her college career, verbally committing to the University of Wyoming beginning in the fall of 2021.
She is the Pokes’ first verbal commitment for their class of 2025.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Wyoming to continue my academic and swimming career. Thank you to my coaches, teammates, family, and everyone who has supported me!! Go Pokes!!”
A talented sprinter, McPherson swims year-round with Laramie Swim Club and most recently achieved six best times at the Wyoming Winter State meet in March. Last summer, she raced five events at Western Zones and was the 100 fly runner-up at the Wyoming SCY Championships in 2019.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.64
- 100 free – 52.97
- 100 fly – 57.36
Also competing for Laramie High School, McPherson is a six-time Wyoming 4A State Championship finalist. She earned gold in the 100 free and silver in the 50 free as a junior while taking third in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 breast during her sophomore season.
Along with her older sister, Olivia McPherson, who is headed off to South Carolina this year, McPherson is a three-time 4A State relay champion as well.
