Lakeside Aquatic Club’s Maggie Gholston Sends Verbal to Auburn for 2020-21 Season
NEW COMMIT: Auburn University has received a verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Flower Mound, Texas sprint freestyler Margaret “Maggie” Gholston.
Gholston, who owns a pair of Winter Junior standards, does her club swimming with Lakeside Aquatic Club and most recently competed at College Station Speedo Sectionals where she finished 14th in the 500 free. She raced four events at Juniors West in December and capped off her long course season by finishing 12th in the 50m free at Rochester Futures this past summer.
Also competing for Flower Mound High School, Gholston placed eighth in both the 50 free and 100 free as a junior at the Texas UIL 6A State Championships. Before that, the two-time NISCA All-American represented Greenwood High School and earned silver in the 100 free and bronze in the 50 free at the Kentucky State Championships during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to take on this journey with Auburn and I am hopeful for what the future holds.”
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.21
- 100 free – 50.67
- 200 free – 1:51.68
- 200 back – 2:04.59
- 400 IM – 4:27.52
Gholston will add valuable sprint depth when she suits up for the Eagles as a member of the class of 2024. She’ll arrive at Auburn after the graduation of Claire Fisch, who placed ninth in the 100 free and 14th in the 50 free at 2019 NCAAs, and will be a huge asset to their relays.
