The 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials from Toronto got started Wednesday morning with the heats of the 100 back, 200 breast and 50 fly, along with the heats of the 100 back para events. Reigning World Champion Kylie Masse put up the world’s fastest 100 back this morning and showed she is ready to get her world record back that she lost last summer to American Kathleen Baker.

Women’s 100 Back

Former world record holder Kylie Masse showed up in a big way Wednesday morning at the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto with a 58.19 in the 100 back heats to just miss Kathleen Baker’s world record of 58.00. Masse was slightly off her Canadian record of 58.10 that she set at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest that stood as the world record until Baker broke it last summer.

Masse is ahead of a stacked field that includes former junior standouts Kayla Sanchez (59.82) and Jade Hannah (59.92). Taylor Ruck, coming off her freshman year at Stanford, is seeded fourth at 1:00.09. Another swimming coming off NCAAs, Louise Hansson (1:00.69), is seeded seventh for the final after winning two events at NCAAs two weeks ago.

Madison Broad (1:00.56), Danielle Hanus (1:00.65), Kennedy Goss (1:01.45), Hannah Henderson (1:01.60) and Kristie Steins (1:01.82) also placed in the top ten.
