KU Athletic Director Resigns
LAWRENCE, Kan., April 26. EMBATTLED Kansas athletic director Bob Frederick tendered his resignation today, according to a story on the Associated Press wire.
The athletic director for the last 14 years, Frederick said he had accepted a full-time position in the KU school of education, which he characterized as "among the finest in the nation."
"I will tremendously miss [sic] the people in the athletic department, the coaches, the administration, the support staff and, of course, the student athletes," Frederick said.
Frederick has come under fire from many critics, particularly regarding his decision in January to drop men's swimming and tennis, a decision that is still being fought by KU students and alumni.
During Fredericks' tenure, most of the KU teams, with the exception of basketball, have fared poorly. The football team has not had a winning seaason since 1995.
