Ksawery Masiuk Announces Verbal Commitment to Swim For Texas Beginning in Spring 2025
In his first season guiding the Texas men’s team, head coach Bob Bowman will have another piece to deploy during championship season with Polish backstroker Ksawery Masiuk announcing his intention to head to Austin beginning in January. Masiuk, a four-time world junior champion and two-time medalist at the senior-level World Championships, is one of several high-profile additions to the Texas roster that could move the Longhorns back into national-title contention.
Masiuk wrote in an Instagram post, “After thinking about it for a long time I’ve decided to enroll at university of Texas in January 2025🤘I’m really excited about what we’ll achieve together.”
Masiuk previously committed to swim for North Carolina State beginning last season, but he changed his mind and remained based in Poland until his first Olympics, in which he was a semifinalist in the 100 backstroke. In his international career, Masiuk won 50 backstroke bronze at the World Championships in 2022 and this February, and he took three medals, including 50 back silver and 100 back bronze, at this year’s European Championships. He also won six medals at the 2022 World Junior Championships, including golds in the 50 and 100 back.
When he arrives in time for the second semester, Masiuk will join a roster that returns Olympic medalist Luke Hobson and up-and-comers Will Modglin and Nate Germonprez from the final year of the Eddie Reese era as well as 200 backstroke Olympic gold medalist Hubert Kos, who followed Bowman from Arizona State. David Johnston returns to Texas following his redshirt year which paid off in an Olympic berth. Aaron Shackell, an Olympic finalist for the U.S. in the 400 freestyle, joins Texas this year, as do transfers Rex Maurer and Michael Cotter.
