Kristen Hayden Sets Dual-Meet Diving Record as Indiana Sweeps Evansville

Kristen Hayden won the 3-meter diving event with the program’s best dual-meet score as Indiana swept out Evansville Friday.

The 13-ranked Indiana women claimed a 148-111 win. The fifth-ranked men’s team capped a 9- 0 regular season and recorded their 15th consecutive win dating to 2019 with a 140-104 decision.

Hayden scored 399.38 points on 3-meter diving. It downs the highest score in an Indiana dual meet in history, trouncing the 373.95 set in 2006 by Christina Loukas.

Hayden also won the 1-meter diving in 335.55. Tarrin Gilliand, the reigning Big Ten diver of the week, was second in both events.

“It was a great showing for IU women’s diving with Kristen Hayden breaking a dual meet record and trending towards some great diving that we hope to see in the postseason,” IU diving coach Drew Johansen said in a team release. “All our athletes did well, as we had multiple personal bests. Right now, the focus is to stay healthy and get them right for Big Ten Championships coming up in just a few weeks.”

In the pool, freshman Ching Hwee Gan grabbed an NCAA B cut in just her third meet. She won the 1,650 freestyle in 16:14.67. She also put in the fastest time of the day in the 200 free (1:48.41). Dominika Kossakowska won the 100 free, was second in the 200 and second to Elyse Heiser in the 500 free. Aislinn Holder made it a clean sweep of freestyle in the 50.

On the stroke side, 200 medley relay mates Brearna Crawford (100 butterfly), Catherine Graham (100 backstroke) and Noelle Peplowski (200 back) added individual wins. Cat Minic won the 200 individual medley, and Ella Ristic won the 100 back.

Van Mathias led the men’s effort by wining the 50 freestyle and 100 breast. Indiana swept freestyle, with Corey Gambardella in the 100, Jasper Davis in the 200, Ben McDade in the 500 and Michael Draves in the 1,000. Joseph Radde and Logan Graham swept backstroke, Rafael Miroslaw claimed the 200 IM and Jacob Steele paired a medley relay win with the 200 fly title.
