GWANGJU – Gwangju, the host city of the 2015 World University Games, has entitled itself Korea’s “Atlantics” or the “Aquatics City” ahead of the multi-sport event slated for July 4-11.
The city has built a state-of-the-art aquatics facility including four floors to seat 3,500 spectators as well as a 10-lane long course racing pool, a diving pool and an eight-lane long course warm down pool.
The facility, which was built with a modular design to allow flexibility and expansion for different venues and accomodations in the future, is a scalable setup that can also add 11,500 more spectator seats for the 2019 FINA World Championships.
The pool operates on renewable energy, using solar and geothermal power, and is on the cutting edge of technology in the sporting world.
Stay tuned as Atlantis is no longer a fictional tale, but the real deal and ready to host the World’s best.
