Kliment Kolesnikov Blasts 51.82 In 100 Back At Swim Cup Of Russia; 2nd All-Time

Olympic silver medallist Kliment Kolesnikov blasted the second-fastest 100 back in history when he went 51.82 at the Swim Cup of Russia in Kazan.

Kolesnikov split 24.83/26.99 to stand behind only Thomas Ceccon and his WR of 51.60 from last year’s World Championships in Budapest.

It slices 0.16 from Evgeny Rylov’s Russian record of 51.98 en-route to gold at the Tokyo Olympics and 0.18 from the PB of 52.00 that secured silver for Kolesnikov.

Rylov was second in 52.80 with Miron Lifintsov third in 52.96.

The meet features swimmers from Russia and Belarus who are isolated on the international stage while Rylov was given an additional nine-month ban in April 2022 by World Aquatics – then FINA – after he participated in a Moscow rally in support of the invasion of Ukraine.

The meet in Kazan coincides with the World Championships where Olympic bronze medallist Ryan Murphy won the 100 back title in 52.22.

Borodin Sets Russian 200IM Mark

Ilya Borodin set a Russian 200IM record of 1:57.30, slicing 0.20 from Andrey Zhilkin’s 2021 standard of 1:57.50.

The 20-year-old also holds the national 400IM mark of 4:08.05 from the 2022 Solidarity Games.

Ilya Shymanovich won the men’s 100 breaststroke in 58.76 with fellow Belarusian Alina Zmushko taking the women’s 50 in 30.67 while Anna Egorova took the 800 free in 8:33.01.

Martin Malyutin added the 400 free to his 200 title on the opening day in 3:48.68, Svetlana Chimrova won the 200 fly (2:08.92) and Maria Kameneva took the 50 back in 27.76.

In semi-final action, Alexander Kharlanov led the way in the men’s 100 fly in 51.53 while Daria Trofimova booked lane four in the women’s 100 free in 54.12.
