Kira Toussaint Lowers European 50 Back Record To 27.10 For Second Continental Mark Of The Day
Kira Toussaint set her second European 50 backstroke record of the day when she lowered it once more to 27.10 at the Eindhoven Qualification Meet.
Toussaint had started Saturday by setting a new continental record of 27.18 in the prelims, taking 0.03 off Georgia Davies‘ mark that had stood since the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow.
The five-time European short-course champion had a previous best of 27.37 – also a Dutch record – from the Rotterdam Qualification Meet in December 2020.
Her blast in the evening finals session means Toussaint has sliced 0.27 off her best in one day.
Maaike de Waard was second in 27.85 with Laura Riedermann rounding out the podium in 28.07.
Toussaint – who is based at the National Training Centre Amsterdam – now stands 0.12 off the world record of 26.98 set by China’s Liu Xiang at the 2018 Asian Games.
European governing body LEN posted a message of congratulations for the second time……..
