Kimberly Buys Wins Six Golds at Belgian Short Course Championships
GHENT – Kimberly Buys completed a remarkable six gold medal effort in just two days at the Belgian Short Course Championships. A day after winning a trio of titles, she matched that effort tonight.
Buys nearly took down the Belgian record in the women’s 100-meter free with a 54.26. That just missed Annelies De Mare’s 2008 mark of 54.22. Juliette Casini placed second in 56.11, while Chantal Senden finished third in 56.36.
Buys doubled up with a 1:00.88 in the women’s 100-meter back. Hanne Calleeuw (1:01.70) and Mirthe Goris (1:02.58) rounded out the top three.
A third title went to Buys with a 26.18 in the women’s 50-meter fly. That’s not far off her Belgian record of 25.80 from 2012. Sara Vanleynseele placed second in 27.60 with Chantal Senden earning third in 27.61.
Francois Heersbrandt just missed a Belgian record of his own with a 21.52 to win the men’s 50-meter free. That swim came up a bit short of Jasper Aerents’ 21.50 from last year. Aerents took second tonight in 21.78 with Pieter Timmers earning third in 22.20.
Emmanuel VanLuchene won the men’s 200-meter free in 1:44.73 with Pieter Timmers taking second in 1:45.89. Glenn Surgeloose wound up third in 1:46.02.
Jolien Vermeylen clinched the women’s 50-meter breast crown in 32.06 with Chantal Senden earning a second podium with a 32.16. Elise Schoefs placed third in 33.08.
Raf Vandevelde topped the men’s 100-meter breast in 1:01.46. Maxime Cabrol (1:01.80) and Basten Caerts (1:02.99) took second and third.
Nathalie Bynens claimed the women’s 400-meter IM title in 4:54.88 with Lotte Goris placing second in 4:56.96. Elien Bassle finished third in 5:01.72.
Gilles De Wilde won the men’s 100-meter fly in 52.23 with Dries Vangoetsenhoven earning second in 54.33. Sebastien De Meulemeester picked up third in 55.37.
Jasper Aerents snared the men’s 50-meter back title in 25.42. Alexis Cabrol (25.77) and Maxime Andrien (25.88) placed second and third.
Victoria Gillet snagged the women’s 200-meter fly in 2:18.30 with Marine Harze placing second in 2:20.68. Valentine Dumont touched third in 2:22.14.
Timothy Deolet won the men’s 200-meter IM in 2:01.13. Raf Vandevelde took his second podium of the night with a 2:02.13, while Basten Caerts placed third in 2:04.98.
Monique Olivier crushed the field in the women’s 400-meter free with a 4:12.51, while Eva Bonnet (4:18.78) and Louve Boits (4:20.95) took second and third.
Niki Buggenhout won the women’s 200-meter breast in 2:35.07 with Luana De Raeve taking second in 2:36.35. Kymberly Adams placed third in 2:36.48.
Logan Vanhuys claimed the men’s 1500-meter free in 15:13.71, while Mathieu Mattelaer finished second in 15:16.88. Lucas Dal wound up third in 15:52.48.
Sonia De Bock topped the women’s 100-meter IM in 1:03.74 with Jolien Vermeylen taking second in 1:04.72. Carolien Lindekens wound up third in 1:05.42.
Lander Hendrickx hit the wall in 1:56.74 to win the men’s 200-meter back, while Nils Van Audekerke took second in 1:58.41. Tuur Lemmens snagged third in 2:01.65.
